Contents The two-year programme comprises four semesters, during which 15 thematic modules and the Master’s thesis must be completed.
The programme focuses on three fields: Crop Physiology and Nutrition The focus of this major is on plant nutrition, plant symbioses, crop quality improvement, as well as on crop-environment interactions, in order to develop technological approaches and management practices with the objective of producing high yields and high quality fruit and grain crops.
Plant Breeding and Seed Science Students are trained in the entire repertoire of classical and modern technologies in plant breeding, breeding methodological thinking, biometry in plant breeding, as well as in seed science.
Crop Protection Starting with descriptive and molecular biology, as well as modern strategies of crop protection, students may subsequently specialize in phytopathology, entomology or weed science.
Modules 1 + 2 Sem.: - 3 compulsory Modules - Advanced Statistical Methods for Metric and Categorical Data - Crop Physiology - Methods of Scientific Working for Crop Sciences
1 + 2 + 3 Sem: 5 Compulsory Modules in one of the 3 Majors - Crop Physiology and Nutrition - Crop Protection - Plant Breeding and Seed Science 7 elective modules
4 Sem.: Master's thesis
Objectives The Master's programme in Crop Sciences seeks to apply biological, physiological, molecular genetic and biometric principles to crops and cropping systems in order to increase their efficiency. Graduates are prepared to creatively solve the changing problems in modern crop development, production and management. This requires a breadth of understanding, from. Crop Sciences majors at the University of Hohenheim concentrate on the interrelationships among the physiological and biological factors regulating crop productivity.
Career Perspectives The graduates acquire in-depth knowledge on their chosen field, develop critical thinking skills and conduct original, cutting-edge research. . Potential areas of employment are:
- Plant cultivation and seed companies - Grain and greenhouse companies - Food Industry - Chemical-pharmaceutical Industry - Service enterprise and consulting companies - Cooperatives and non-governmental groups - Public and private research centers - Agrichemical companies
