Formal requirements
- 180 credits

- Applicants require an above-average Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or equivalent degree in Agricultural Sciences or a related discipline following at least three years of university studies or German Fachhochschule (University of Applied Sciences) studies.

- Apart from grades and educational achievements, professional experience, 
  motivation and other relevant activities will be considered.

- Proof of English language skills (e.g. 79 ibt TOEFL)

We expect realy good knowledges of English, the ability to work in a team,
intercultural competence, social integration and the motivation to learn German
for coping with work and daily life.


Contents
The two-year programme comprises four semesters, during which 15 thematic modules and the master thesis must be completed. The programme emphasizes a firm foundation in economic analysis and quantitative methods, to address real-world problems. Apart from five compulsory modules, students have a broad choice of elective modules. This allows students to develop their profiles according to their own career aspirations.

Objectives
The Master’s programme is designed to prepare qualified people of all nationalities for these and other challenging tasks through state-of-the-art education. The programme emphasises a firm foundation in economic analysis and quantitative methods, to address real-world problems.

The programme aims to contribute to the training of a future generation of agricultural scientists with competence in:

- Perspectives of Natural and Social Science
- Analysis and Synthesis of Interdisciplinary Systems
- Communication
- Negotiation and
- Facilitation skills


Career Perspectives
Students acquire both the analytical skills and policy background, required for strategic positions in the public and private sector. Aspects directly related to primary agricultural production make up only a small fraction of the possible range of activities for agricultural economists. More common for university graduates are jobs in:

- Upstream and downstream industries
- Regulatory authorities along the food chain
- Government agencies and non-government organisations
- National and international organisations
- Research institutions
- Teaching institutions

The M.Sc. degree in Agricultural Economics also provides excellent qualifications to commence doctoral research and pursue an academic career.
