| Potatoes are the fourth most important staple food crop world-wide, with a high increase in cultivation area in China and India in recent years. Despite their economic importance, advances in yield and resistances against major diseases are lacking behind in comparison to other crops. This is partially due to the highly heterogeneous and tetraploid nature of potato. In order to progress in these areas, breeding and assessment of new and improved varieties is a key objective of the potato community. To achieve this goal, international exchange and cooperation can contribute significantly and this is the major aim during the Joint Meetings of the EAPR Section Breeding and Varietal Assessment and the EUCARPIA Section Potatoes. |
